Terms of Use

Last Updated: March 2025

1. Introduction

Welcome to crimestats.ie. By accessing or using this website, you agree to the following Terms of Use. If you do not agree to these terms, please discontinue use of this website immediately.

2. Purpose of crimestats.ie

crimestats.ie provides users with publicly available crime statistics based on Garda Districts in Ireland. Users can search for an address or Eircode to view crime trends associated with the relevant Garda District. Additionally, users can participate in community forums to discuss safety issues in their areas and suggest improvements for anti-social behaviour.

All data presented is sourced from the Central Statistics Office (CSO), the Garda Mapping Unit, and An Garda Síochána. crimestats.ie does not generate, alter, or modify crime data in any way. Our role is solely to consolidate and present publicly available data in a more accessible format.

3. User Accounts

To participate in forums and receive notifications, users must register an account. During registration, users provide a username, email address, password (stored securely as a hash), and may optionally select a Garda District. Each email address and username must be unique. Users can update or delete their account at any time via the My Account page.

4. Garda Review Feature

Threads in the forums can be flagged for Garda Review. This mechanism allows users to bring attention to discussions that may relate to public safety or community wellbeing. Flagging a thread does not constitute a formal crime report, and crimestats.ie is not affiliated with An Garda Síochána.

5. No Guarantee of Accuracy

While we strive to present accurate and up-to-date information, crimestats.ie does not guarantee the accuracy, completeness, or reliability of the data provided. Crime data is subject to change and may not always reflect real-time updates.

The accuracy of the crime statistics displayed depends on the data made available by official sources. If you have concerns regarding specific crime data, please refer directly to the Central Statistics Office or An Garda Síochána.

6. No Guarantee of Crime-Free Areas

crimestats.ie does not provide any assurance or guarantee that an area classified as having a "low crime rate" or "very low crime rate" is safe, secure, or free from criminal activity. Conversely, areas classified as "high crime rate" or "very high crime rate" do not imply a guarantee of personal risk or danger.

Crime is inherently unpredictable, and past trends do not determine future incidents. Users should not use this website as a sole source for making personal, business, or security-related decisions.

7. No Legal or Financial Advice

The information provided on crimestats.ie is for informational purposes only. It should not be interpreted as legal, financial, real estate, or security advice. Users should conduct their own independent research or seek professional guidance before making decisions based on crime data.

8. Limitation of Liability

crimestats.ie and its operators, contributors, or affiliates shall not be liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from:

  • Use or reliance on the data presented on this website.
  • Errors, omissions, or inaccuracies in crime statistics.
  • Any decision-making based on crime statistics displayed on this website.
  • Loss, harm, or injury resulting from assumptions about crime rates in a specific area.

Users acknowledge that crime data does not predict future incidents, and safety decisions should not be based solely on information provided by crimestats.ie.

9. Forum Conduct

Users are expected to engage in forums respectfully and constructively. Offensive, defamatory, or unlawful content is strictly prohibited. crimestats.ie reserves the right to remove any content and suspend or delete user accounts that violate these terms.

10. External Links

This website may contain links to external sources, including official crime statistics from the CSO and An Garda Síochána. crimestats.ie is not responsible for the accuracy, reliability, or content of any external websites.

11. Open-Source Data and Public Information

All data presented on crimestats.ie is sourced from publicly available datasets. We do not claim ownership over the crime data, and all sources are credited appropriately.

If you believe that any data is misrepresented or have questions about data sources, please contact us.

12. Changes to These Terms

crimestats.ie reserves the right to modify these Terms of Use at any time. Users will be notified of significant changes via an update notice on the website. Continued use of the website constitutes acceptance of any updated terms.
